Mercury Retro - U-Turns and Reversals

Martin Newland resigned as editor (Mercury rules writers, editors) of The Daily Telegraph after he was appointed in 2003, before the current owners the Barclay brothers took over last year. leaving him in "limbo" and unable to make any "major strategic decisions about the paper".



Robbie Williams's Angels and Aretha Frankin's Say A Little Prayer (Sagittarian Religion) are among songs to be allowed in civil marriages after a century-old ban was overturned (Mercury Retrograde in action). A prohibition of lyrics and poems with religious references had been in place since civil ceremonies were introduced in England and Wales in 1837.

U-turn on capital traffic scheme

Elements of a controversial £3m traffic management scheme introduced in Edinburgh last month are set to be reversed by councillors on Thursday. (Remember, Mercury rules traffic). The u-turn, which will cost £35,000, comes after businesses in the city centre argued that the road closures had actually made congestion worse.

Delta asks judge to void contract with pilots

Delta Air Lines Inc. asked a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge Wednesday to void its contract with Delta’s pilots’ union so the beleaguered airline can impose deep wage and benefit cuts and avoid further financial erosion.
